In this learning activity, we will evaluate process improvement plan presentations. Your presentation will be based on the process improvement plan you developed throughout the course.

Your presentation should include:

1. A slide presentation 10-15 slides in length.
2. A 5 to 7 minute narration.
3. Presenter notes.
4. A discussion of the deficiencies in the current processes, your proposal of a new process, the requirements to successfully implement the process, and your plan of action.

The audience for your presentation is the board and stakeholders of the organization implementing the plan.

Assume that Country A has a population of 500,000 and only produces 1 good: cars. Country A produces 100,000 cars per year. The people in Country A purchase 90,000 cars, but there are not enough cars to fulfill all the demand. They decide to import 50,000 more. The government buys 25,000 cars for its police force, and 10,000 cars are bought by companies to transport employees to other locations to work. They also export 65,000 cars to nearby countries for sale. Discuss the following:

• What is Country A’s GDP?
• What is the composition of GDP by percentage?
• What is the GDP per capita?
• How does this relate to Keynesian economics?

Discussion 1 – How Reinforcing is My Reinforcer? – Discuss in 100 – 150 words with in text citations –  In Chapter One, our author discusses a ‘general rule’ that reminds us to make sure we have a true reinforcer before spending time trying to reinforce behavior.    Please share an example that illustrates the importance of this rule.   Have you ever attempted to use a reinforcer that did not truly act as a reinforcer?   Please explain.

Assignment 1: Discussion—Economic Systems, Comparative Advantage

An international business must understand the economic system embraced by the host country and its implications. Moreover, there are powerful economic arguments in support of international trade and they provide a useful perspective on international business.

Research economic systems using your textbook, University online library resources, and the Internet. Respond to the following:

• Which economic systems would be most suitable for a country: centrally planned, mixed economy, or market economy?  Since Canada is the #1 trading partner with the USA, focus specifically on Canada. Research Canada’s mixed economy and comparing it to the American economy covering any comparative advantages of Canada. State any assumptions you make and give reasons for your position.

By Friday, October 16, 2015, submit your assignment to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Sunday, October 18, 2015, review and comment on at least two of your peers’ responses. Be sure to respond to at least one peer who selected an economic system different from your choice.

Interview Preparation

Part I

• Use the Internet to locate a job posting that supports your career path or professional interest.
• Create a one-page resume that highlights the knowledge, skills, and experience you possess that align to the job posting you located on the Internet.

Part II

• Write a paper of approximately 750 words on how one could implement strategies that will assist in the achievement of professional goals such as changing careers or trying to get a promotion.
• Include the interviewing strategies that you would use and those you would avoid.
• Provide a list of best practices and tools for searching, preparing, and securing new employment as well as promotional opportunities.
• Format your paper using the guidelines provided in the West Writing Style Handbook.

The Discussion Board (DB) is part of the core of online learning. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. At the end of each unit, DB participation will be assessed based on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion.

At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Wednesday of each week. Two additional responses are required after Wednesday of each week. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation.

The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit.

Assignment Details

There are times when you will give ideas extemporaneously, and there are times when you will have time to plan carefully about what you will say. As a professional, in Business, Information Technology, or Criminal Justice, your opinions will carry more weight if you are considered to be a knowledge-focused, thinking, and educated representative in the discipline. Here, you will consider ways to blend and merge your overview of your education, your oversight of your discipline, and a need to be able to represent yourself and your topics in the best light.

Respond to the following questions during this unit’s discussion. If you use research to support or explain your answer, be sure to format citations and a reference list according to APA guidelines.

Part A

What are 3 key things that you would want a mid- or upper-level manager to know about you if you had a chance to make a presentation to him or her? Why are the 3 items important to you, and why do you think they would be important pieces of information for your managers?

If you were going to tell a mid-level manager or senior executive about your own personal history and professional goals in a brief elevator trip, how would you summarize them? How might such an elevator speech be of help to you as you move forward? Be sure to consider the concepts of speaker, message, audience, and situational awareness as part of your discussion.

Part B

How do you use and apply the concept of reflective practice in your everyday work and in your career thinking and planning?

Discuss ways in which your preparation for presentations can make use of the concept of reflective practice. How can a continuing habit of reflective practice contribute to your application of the rhetorical triangle? How might an online presence leverage reflective practice, your knowledge in your discipline, and your knowledge of the rhetorical triangle?

How does Hesiod portray the gods? Why is this important when considering his culture?

-Why does Homer write Telemachy before the Odyssey proper? Pick one reason and discuss it in-depth.

-How does Homer portray Penelope? How does she compare to modern female protagonists?

-Is Odysseus a hero in the sense we think of heroes? What type of cultural differences does this show?

For this week’s hands-on assignment, we are going to construct a research proposal for our persuasive research paper. You may use the attached template to write your proposal. You may add more supporting and opposing arguments or support points, but you may not subtract from the template, as the template reflects the minimum amount of supporting evidence necessary for our paper.

The final paper will eventually be 4-5 double-spaced pages of text, not including the title page and reference page (In other words, the grand total will be 6-8 pages). You should plan accordingly to have enough research information and support points to fulfill this page requirement. This research proposal should only be 1-2 pages long.

On your proposal, you may use direct quotes, paraphrases and summaries for your support points, but they must include an in-text citation, and quotes must be in quotation marks. You do not have to have full research done at this time and you may, if you like, only include your own rational arguments for which you will find support later.

Remember that your supporting arguments will support your thesis. In other words, your supporting arguments will explain why your thesis should be believed. The opposing arguments should represent opposing perspectives or questions that you expect your skeptical audience to have about your thesis. In other words, your opposing arguments are reasons that your thesis should NOT be believed. The replies to those opposing arguments are how you would fend off that skepticism, point by point.
