***PART 5***

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: an infrastructure document and a revised Gantt chart or project plan. You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

The use of specific software has been suggested however equivalents including but not limited to OpenOffice, Dia, and Open Project are also permitted. If equivalent tools are used, files must be saved and submitted for grading using extensions that are readable by their equivalent Microsoft Windows edition. Assignment submissions that fail to follow this request may result in a reduced grade.

The infrastructure which encompasses the network solution and security considerations is a major consideration for your company. Considering that the company will be expanding from one (1) floor to three (3) floors in the very near future you, as the CIO, are responsible for the design of the infrastructure and security protocols. You have been tasked with designing a network that is stable, redundant, and scalable. In addition, speed and reliability are important considerations. Assumptions should be drawn regarding network usage in relationship to network services and resources. All the established criteria that were set at the onset should be adhered to within your plan. The network solution that is chosen should support the conceived information system and allow for scalability. The network infrastructure will support organizational operations; therefore, a pictorial view of workstations, servers, routers, bridges, gateways, and access points should be used. In addition, access paths for Internet access should be depicted. Additionally, the security of the network should be in the forefront of your design because protecting your data is a primary consideration.

Section 1: Infrastructure Document

  1. Write a four to six (4-6) page infrastructure document in which you:
    1. Justify and support the relationship between infrastructure and security as it relates to this data-collection and analysis company.
    2. Present the rationale for the logical and physical topographical layout of the planned network.
    3. Design a logical and physical topographical layout of the current and planned network through the use of graphical tools in Microsoft Word or Visio, or an open source alternative such as Dia. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
    4. Illustrate the possible placement of servers including access paths to the Internet, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and firewalls. Note: Facility limitations, workstations, databases, printers, routers, switches, bridges, and access points should be considered in the illustration.
    5. Create and describe a comprehensive security policy for this data-collection and analysis company that will:
  1. Protect the company infrastructure and assets by applying the principals of confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA). Note: CIA is a widely used benchmark for evaluation of information systems security, focusing on the three (3) core goals of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information.
  2. Address ethical aspects related to employee behavior, contractors, password usage, and access to networked resources and information.

Section 1 of your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
  • Include charts or diagrams created in MS Visio or Dia as an appendix of the infrastructure document. All references to these diagrams must be included in the body of the infrastructure document.

Section 2: Revised Project Plan

Use Microsoft Project to:

  1. Update the project plan from Project Deliverable 4: Analytics, Interfaces, and Cloud Technology, with three to five (3-5) new project tasks each consisting of five to ten (5-10) sub-tasks.

  • Assess management performance by calculating Economic Value Added (EVA).
  • Evaluate the soundness of the company’s financial policies (e.g. capital structure, debt, leverage, dividend policy, etc.) based on the material covered during class.
  • A synopsis of your findings, including your recommendations and rationale for whether or not to purchase stock from this company.

This report should be 15 to 20 pages long, excluding title page and reference page(s), using APA 6th edition formatting guidelines. Support your findings and recommendations with evidence from at least five scholarly sources in addition to the annual report, such as the textbook, industry reports, and articles from the Ashford University Library. Be sure to include links to websites that were used as references or to access company information.

Describe the communication elements involved in the event. Write brief descriptions of the following elements of communication observed during the event

Directions: Write a 1-2 page response to the following prompt using proper APA Style.

Select an event during which a specific, intended message was delivered successfully.  The event could be based on fact or fiction.  For example, perhaps you watched one of the President’s speeches on television, or maybe you watched a movie in which a character delivers an effective speech.

Step 1: Review the information presented in Module 1 about the elements of communication.

Step 2: Using a word processor (such as MS Word), write a short summary of the event that includes the following information:

  • Type of event,
  • Setting of the event (where, when, and so on),
  • Audience for the communication, and
  • Main goal of the message being delivered.

Step 3: Describe the communication elements involved in the event.  Write brief descriptions of the following elements of communication observed during the event:

  • Message – information being communicated
  • Listener – receiver of the intended message
  • Feedback – response to the message provided to the speaker by the listener
  • Channel – method used to communicate the message
  • Environment – occasion and physical setting for the communication
  • Noise – distractions that inhibit the successful completion of the message delivery

Step 4: What made the Speaker – person delivering the message in a communication process – successful?  Write a paragraph that describes the communication elements that played the biggest roles in making the communication successful.

Write a response to the following prompt using proper APA Style.

Prompt 2: You will watch a short sales presentation for an “As Seen on TV” product.

Step 4: Answer the following questions:

  1. How was the presentation organized?
  2. Do you believe the organization of the presentation was successful?  Explain.
  3. What would you change about the presentation and why?

.

Prompt 4: You will read a description of a speaking situation, make decisions about how to adjust the speech delivery based on the situation, and answer questions about your decisions.

Step 1: Review the information presented in Module 6 that explores speech delivery and how it should be modified based on the characteristics of the audience and other factors.

Step 2: Read the following description of a speaking situation:

You work as a technical support manager for a satellite television company.  As part of a company-sponsored tuition reimbursement program, you are also attending college courses part time and pursuing a degree in communications.  Your Human Resources representative asks you to give a presentation to a group of people at an upcoming career fair.  The HR manager is interested in you helping motivate potential applicants to apply for part-time positions that pay a relatively low hourly wage and include only limited benefits.  This is exactly the type of position you accepted when you first started with the company.  The job fair will be held in a part of the city with a relatively low unemployment rate.  The people attending are likely to come from middle- to upper middle-class families.  The people who attend the career fair from upper middle-class families are used to getting what they want without too much effort; therefore, they may not be able to relate directly to the persistence you showed to work your way from a part-time low-paying position into a higher-paying one that includes benefits.  The ones from middle-class families may relate more to your personal story.  You can’t gather all the characteristics of all the career fair attendees in advance, but you do know that the way in which you explain the advantages of working for the satellite television company and the type of language you use will affect the attendees’ decision on whether or not to apply for a position with the company.

Step 3: Write a paragraph or more to answer each of the following questions related to this speaking situation:

  1. When you state you thesis, how will you phrase it to avoid negative reactions from potential applicants who are expecting more pay and better benefits when they first start with the company?
  2. What language strategies would you use in your speech to make it sound more appealing to the entire group?
  3. What techniques could you use to establish common ground with everyone in the audience?
  4. How would you change your speech delivery if the audience consisted mostly of low-income mothers trying to enter or re-enter the workforce?

Write a response to the following prompt using proper APA Style.

Prompt 5: You will select a topic for your informational speech.  Limit the scope of your topic based on the idea that you can present the actual speech in four to seven minutes.

Step 1: Review the information presented in Module 7 that explores informative speeches.  In particular, focus on the goals of informative speeches, principles of effective informative speeches, and types of informative speeches.

Step 2: Select a topic that fits into one of the categories of informative speeches: description, definition, or demonstration.

Identify at least five benefits and at least five risks associated your chosen option.

According to studies of graduates of bachelor-degree programs in psychology, entry-level positions tend to pay relatively little and may be relatively unsatisfying. Although the positions, pay, and reported job satisfaction of psychology majors tend to significantly improve many years after graduation, those who enter the workforce immediately upon graduation risk at least a few years of less-than-satisfactory employment (Landrum & Elison-Bowers, 2009; Rajecki & Borden, 2011).

Although graduate school can be a route to a better paying, more satisfying job and career, it is quite expensive. According to the APA (2003), a doctoral degree results in most students entering into debts worth $50,000 to $75,000 or even more. The median debt incurred for a master’s degree is approximately $25,000 (Kantrowitz, 2011).

Using your textbook, the Internet, and the Argosy University online library resources, research choices such as entering the workforce immediately upon graduation or enrolling in a graduate school. On the basis of your research, respond to the following:

  • Select one of the options: entering the workforce upon graduation or attending graduate school. Identify at least five benefits and at least five risks associated your chosen option. For example, if you choose to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation, identify the benefits and risks of doing so. Cite at least two sources of this information.
  • Design a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation illustrating the risks and benefits. Include at least one graph, chart, or table to add to the presentation’s visual appeal.
    • If you have chosen to enter the workforce, imagine you are designing the presentation for a job fair at which you are a recruiter trying to convince new graduates of undergraduate programs to work for your organization.
    • If you have chosen to enter graduate school, imagine you are designing the presentation for a professional conference where you hope to recruit undergraduate seniors to apply to your graduate program.
    • Include one slide with a speech or a persuasive narrative, in your own words, to persuade students or recent graduates to make one choice (join the workforce or enter graduate school).
    • Include at least one slide addressing recent trends in the job market and analyzing whether this is an optimal time to enter the workforce or to continue your studies in graduate school.
    • Include at least one slide addressing the pitfalls recent graduates from bachelor’s degree programs face and how best to avoid those challenges. One pitfall must be related to the financial risk of or the debt incurred as a result of making each choice (joining the workforce and continuing school).

  • Support your statements with information from academic sources, one of which can be your textbook. Be sure to include in-text citations and a reference list on the final slides of the presentation.
