Summarize the legal aspects of the information security triad: availability, integrity, and confidentiality.

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: a written paper and a PowerPoint presentation. You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for.
Health Information Technology (HIT) is a growing field within health services organizations today; additionally, health information security is a major concern among health organizations, as they are required to maintain the security and privacy of health information. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) provides extensive information about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). In March 2012, the HHS settled a HIPAA case with the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee (BCBST) for $1.5 million. As an IT security manager at a regional health services organization, your CIO has asked for the following: an analysis of this incident, an overview of the HIPAA security requirements necessary to prevent this type of an incident, and a briefing for management on the minimum security requirements to be HIPAA complaint.
Section1: Written Paper
1. Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:
a. Describe the security issues of BCBST in regard to confidentiality, integrity, availability, and privacy based on the information provided in the BCBST case.
b. Describe the HIPPA security requirement that could have prevented each security issue identified if it had been enforced.
c. Analyze the corrective actions taken by BCBST that were efficient and those that were not adequate.
d. Analyze the security issues and the HIPAA security requirements and describe the safeguards that the organization needs to implement in order to mitigate the security risks.  Ensure that you describe the safeguards in terms of administrative, technical, and physical safeguards.
e. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
Your written paper must follow these formatting requirements:
  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.
Section 2: PowerPoint Presentation
2. Create a six to eight (6-8) slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:

a.  Provide the following on the main body slides:

i. An overview of the security issues at BCBST

ii. HIPAA security requirements that could have prevented the incident

iii. Positive and negative corrective actions taken by BCBST

iv. Safeguards needed to mitigate the security risks

Your PowerPoint presentation must follow these formatting requirements:
  • Include a title slide, four to six (4-6) main body slides, and a conclusion slide.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Use technology and information resources to research legal issues in information security.
  • Write clearly and concisely about information security legal issues and topics using proper writing mechanics and technical style conventions.

How can the conclusions of your literature review inform the population towards whom your presentation is directed?

Utilizing the information you compiled for your literature review paper, and the feedback you received from your instructor about the literature review, prepare a 10-15 minute Power Point presentation on your topic, summarizing the key points and conclusions. Be sure to direct this presentation to an audience in the community. For example, if your paper pertained to a topic in developmental psychology, direct your presentation toward parents, or a parenting center. If your topic pertained to substance abuse, direct it toward a community service agency which may use this information for educating teens or parents about preventing drug use, or current clients about treatments and facilities available. Please state in your presentation the specific audience toward whom your presentation is aimed. Include a reference page in APA format, as well as speaker notes and an audio file with your presentation.

Your slides should provide answers to the following questions:

  • What was your topic?
  • What question did you hope to answer by completing this literature review paper? Explain the practical implications of the conclusions of the literature review and the audience to which they are directed.
  • Given the results of your literature review, what is/are the prevailing argument(s)? In other words, which of those is supported by the existing evidence? Be sure to include full coverage of the arguments, including strengths and weaknesses of each of them, supported by your findings from reviewing the relevant articles.
  • Did the researchers consider multicultural factors in their studies? If not, what factors may be involved? What multicultural factors should future studies include?
  • What ethical issues are related to your topic and/or discussed in the studies you reviewed?
  • How do the conclusions of your literature review relate to the various specialization areas in psychology? Tie them to as many as apply from the following areas: biological, cognitive, developmental, social, personality theory, psychopathology, and applied psychology.
  • How can the conclusions of your literature review inform the population towards whom your presentation is directed? How can they apply this information to their daily lives? What advice or ‘take home message’ can you provide to your audience based on the research you reviewed?
  • What research question could you ask in order to further develop this area of study?
  • Why is your research question important and relevant to the current work being done on your topic?

Your presentation should also follow these guidelines:

  • It should be approximately 10-15 minutes in length.
  • It should be clear, concise, and professional.  Writing should be free of spelling and grammatical errors; it should conform to current APA style (including any in-text citations).
  • It should include graphs, tables, figures, or images illustrating your ideas.
  • There should be a final slide listing references in current APA style.
  • The bulk of the text should be placed in the Notes pages of each slide. Keep the amount of text on the slide, itself, to a minimum.
  • You should record an audio file of your oral presentation. You should also type the text of the speech you would give while showing these slides to an audience should be typed into the Notes area.  If you are unable to use the audio feature, the Notes text will suffice.

For strategic planning in particular, meetings are an essential part of each phase of the process. What challenges have you noticed in the meetings you have attended? Lab 2: Modifying a Database Design in Visio

 

This assignment contains two (2) Sections: Modified Visio Diagram and Design Summary. You must submit both sections as separate files in order to complete this assignment.

 

Use “Appendix A: Designing Databases with Visio Professional: A Tutorial,” located in the online course shell to help you complete Section 1: Modified Visio Database Design. (Note: This tutorial focuses on the use of Microsoft Visio. Open source applications are not covered in Appendix A. However, the use of open source applications within labs is permitted.)

 

After reviewing your database design from Lab 1: Creating a Database Design in Visio, the college has provided more information for the database that they want developed:

  • For each student, the college needs to track the student  ID, student names, addresses, start date, phone numbers and types (such as mobile, home, work), email addresses and types (such as personal, school, work), gender, and birth date.
  • For each course, the college needs to track the course ID, course name, department, quarters offered, sections, and instructor teaching each course.
  • For each instructor, the college needs to track the instructor ID, name, address, phone numbers and types (such as mobile, home, work), email addresses and types (such as personal, school, work), gender, birth date, and the courses that each instructor is qualified to teach.
  • Additionally, the college needs to track the final grades for each student after each course has completed.

 

Section 1: Modified Visio Diagram

(Microsoft Visio or equivalent)

  1. Use Microsoft Visio (or open source equivalent) in which you:
    1. Modify the database diagram from Lab 1 with the entities and attributes that the scenario identified (i.e., a college tracking students, courses, and instructors).
    2. Create the appropriate relationships between each entity within the diagram.

  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required assignment page length.
