Prepare a final paper describing the evolution of personality theory from Freud to the present day. The final project for this course is the creation of a final paper describing the evolution of personality theory from Freud to present day.

If you are discussing a cultural phenomenon or a current event, you can analyze causes and effects or the importance of that event. For a written text or a performance, you will tell how well the author conveys their intentions to the audience. Are they convincing? What are the weaknesses?

Respond(INTERPRETATION) : Often, a Critical Analysis assignment requires you to present the summary and analysis objectively. However, another way of writing a critical analysis is to include your own point of view. Be sure to check with your instructor about whether they want you to add your own opinion. GUIDELINES

Choose a topic (below), and write an illustration/example essay. Please read chapter 6 in Nexus to help you understand how to write the illustration/example essay. All college essays are formatted using MLA style (headers, page numbers, etc.). Read the MLA chapter of your grammar book pp. 700-713.

Introduction (at least 5-7 sentences)

Before you complete your Week Two assignment, please read your instructor’s comments about your Week One assignment, as well as this week’s lecture. Be sure to include any suggested changes in your project going forward.

In a three- to four-page paper (not including the title and references pages),

1. Include a revised version of your introduction, research question, background research, and hypothesis. These revisions must be based on your instructor’s feedback.
2. Discuss any ethical concerns you might encounter while doing your research.

And, what theoretical perspective/perspectives would best explain why black fathers are not able to fulfill the breadwinner role in the United States? To help you address the aforementioned questions, project members should engage in a semi-structured interview with eight persons (5 males and 5 females). These individuals can be your peers, family members, persons on campus or even strangers. Ask about their thoughts on what father involvement means to them, if there are differences in how black fathers are perceived in relation to white fathers and what do they feel, if any, account for these differences. Ensure to collect data on the age, race/ethnicity, gender, perceived socio-economic status, religious affiliation, level of education and family structure, of the persons you interview (no names are to be solicited).

–       Assess the successes and failures of two theoretical frameworks that you will use in your paper to explain your results on fathering.

–       Using the semi-structured interviews, write a detailed critique of what father involvement means, noting the differences that exist in the definitions, the differences in how black fathers and white fathers are perceived and the reason for these perceived differences. Please make note of how the aforementioned differences are stratified by race/ethnicity, gender, education, socio-economic background etc.

 

 

The Father Involvement Project is a group assignment and asks you to develop a critical response with regard to the following quote, subsequent statements and questions:

“His job is elsewhere… because his fundamental value to the family is maintaining the connection to the elsewhere . . . Fathers have been far away for centuries: on military campaigns, as sailors on distant seas for years at a time; as cattle drivers, travelers, trappers, prospectors, messengers, prisoners, jobbers, peddlers, slavers, pirates, missionaries, migrant workers. The work week was once seventy-two hours. The construct ‘‘fatherhood’’ shows widely different faces in different countries, classes, occupations, and historical times. Only today is absence so shaming, and declared a criminal, even criminal-producing behavior.” (Hillman, 1996; pg. 80-81). One of the most, if not the most, enduring historical elements defining fatherhood has nothing to do with rearing children but deals with the assumption that the major role of fathers within the family is the breadwinner. The “the breadwinner” role assumes homogeneity and so demonstrates a lack of recognition of differences (race/ethnicity, social class, prior family structure and education to name a few) between men, and subsequently, between fathers in the United States.

–       Using the semi-structured interviews, write a detailed critique of what father involvement means, noting the differences that exist in the definitions, the differences in how black fathers and white fathers are perceived and the reason for these perceived differences. Please make note of how the aforementioned differences are stratified by race/ethnicity, gender, education, socio-economic background etc.

–       Use the aforementioned theoretical frameworks to explain the differences in the definitions in father involvement, the perceived differences between black and white fathers and the reasons for these perceived differences.

–       State clearly the side of the debate you are aligned with regarding the pros and cons of the frameworks in explaining black father involvement. Analyze in detail the reasons for your position. Identify and clarify points of agreement and disagreement with the other side.

–       Analyze the claims of the opposing side that you do not necessarily support and be sure to identify and analyze at least three reasons why you do not support that position.Use the results from your semi-structured interviews to help to support or refute any points you are making.

You will complete this as a GROUP PROJECT. The Father Involvement Project is due Thursday, October 30 in class.  No late projects will be accepted. If a student did not effectively participate in the group project, it is in the best interest of the group to notify me so that appropriate action can be taken.

Instructions for the format of the Father Involvement Project

• Project must be typewritten on one-sided paper, double-spaced.

• Project should have 1″ margins all around.
• The type font should be Times New Roman, size 12.
• All text other than references should be double-spaced; type references in single space.
• All pages except the first page should be numbered (right, top).
• The body of the project should be no less than 10 pages, or more than 12 pages, in length. Project page length does not include the title page and reference page.
• The group members’ names (in alphabetical order), day and date, and the title of the project should be on the first page of the project.

• The references should be listed on a separate page from the text.
• You must use and cite at least five (5) scholarly sources, which must include at least one book and one journal article. (Scholarly internet articles are acceptable provided they have names of authors, titles of articles, and website addresses in the reference page). Newspapers, magazines, Wikipedia, television programs, conversations etc. are NOT scholarly sources and should not be used as counted references; they will not count towards your source count and if they are used, they will negatively affect your project grade. I highly recommend you do not use any of the aforementioned.
• Please use the APA style for referencing.

• Grading will be based on well-written introduction/ roadmap (5 points), use of theoretical frameworks and interview responses (20 points), clarity of analyses (20 points), organization of project (5 points), grammar/ spelling/ punctuation (5 points) and bibliographical citations (5 points).

Be careful to avoid plagiarism (see section on the university’s policy regarding plagiarism). Direct quotations should be placed in quotation marks; indent lengthy quotations. You will receive significant point deductions on your papers for poor quality writing. Expect a minimum of 5 points to be deducted if I do not receive the project at the beginning of the scheduled class and a 5 point deduction for every other late day (including weekends). I will not be accepting the project after a week has passed.
