Assignment 1: LASA 2: Putting the Puzzle Together

Every group, whether social or professional, has roles that need to be filled in order for the group to function effectively. Sometimes, people choose the role they want to play. At other times, people may naturally fall into a role without even realizing it. Research group roles or group dynamics using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Write an essay on the topic. Address the following:

1. What types of group roles are there? Name and describe at least six different roles.  Also, note that similar roles are known by different names, for example, leader andfacilitator. What you call a role is not as important as doing a good job of explaining the purpose and duties of each role.
2. Can some roles have more than one person in that role in one group? If so, which roles are they? Which roles, if any, cannot have more than one person in the role in one group? Why?
3. Can you rank the roles in order of importance? If yes, do so and explain your ranking. If you could not rank the roles, explain why. Is it because all roles are equally important?
4. What role do you tend to play in groups? Is it a role you choose because you enjoy it or because you are just naturally good at it?
5. We have all had to struggle with some roles we were required to play. Describe such an experience from your personal or professional life. Explain the difficulty and how you solved it.
6. In a summary paragraph, discuss the value or constraint that you find with group roles. Discuss how knowledge of group roles will help a group communicate and work together.

Write a 4-5 page essay in Word format. Apply APA standards for writing style to your work. Include a References page for any articles and websites used in your research.

Your CEO wants to develop specific criteria to select vendors for office supplies, equipment, etc. and has asked you to investigate selection criteria.  In a two page  business memo:

• Explain why a selection criteria is needed
• Recommend specific criteria (no less than 5 elements)
• Explain why each element in the list is needed
• To strengthen your recommendation, include an example of a company and its criteria.

    • Adderley v. Florida, 385 U.S. 39 (1966)
    • U.S. v. Wise, 221 F.3d 140 (5th Cir. 2000)
    • U.S. v. Bailey, 444 U.S. 394 (1980)
  • Your case brief should follow the format below:
    • Title: Title of the selected case
    • Facts: Summary of the events, court timeline, evidence, and so forth
    • Issues: Issues that were present in this case
    • Decisions: The court’s decision and the conclusion to the case
    • Reasoning: The rationale behind the final decision
    • Dissenting opinions: Any dissenting opinions, and an explanation of what they were and why they were raised
  • Define disorderly conduct. Explain why the protest of one group was upheld while the other was not.

Two angry students sent e-mails from Texas to government agencies, such as the FBI in California, U.S. Customs in New York, the ATF, the Secret Service, and the Correspondence Office of the President.  The e-mails contained threats to blow up a building in protest over U.S. involvement in several controversial international issues. The students were arrested and charged with threats to use weapons of mass destruction. A search of the students’ homes and dormitories did not reveal any bomb making materials.

• Will the government be successful and obtain a conviction? Explain your answer.

Inmate Grady was working during his shift on the landscape detail at a very large camp with no fences. He and some other prisoners had hidden some homemade moonshine under a rock. Inmate Grady drank the little bit of moonshine that was left. During inmate count, Officer Giles discovers that inmate Grady is missing. A search ensues, and the officers find inmate Grady down the street from the camp asleep under a tree. Inmate Grady argues that he got drunk and lost and could not find his way back to the dormitory.

• What charges can be brought against inmate Grady? Explain in detail

The Business of Behavioral Health

Managed care has had a significant impact on the delivery of behavioral health services. This has influenced the way that the behavioral health industry conducts business. This week’s research paper will focus on the business of behavioral health.

Read the following articles from the EBSCO host database:

• Covall, M. (2005, January). Medicare prospective payment comes to        psychiatric hospitals. Behavioral Health Management, 25(1), 54–57.
• Oss, M. E. (2005). What’s next for managed behavioral health. (Cover story). Behavioral Health Management, 25(6), 11-14

You should also search the Internet to further learn about additional factors that influence the business model of behavioral health.

To complete this research paper, you will need to include an introduction and conclusion section as well as a title page and reference section. The paper should adhere to the following guidelines:

• The length of the paper should be 6 to 8 double-spaced pages (not including the title and reference pages).
• The main sections should have a:
  • Title page
  • Introduction
  • Body of the paper (with subheadings)
  • Conclusion
  • Reference page(s)
• The paper must use the APA format for citing sources and references.

Your paper introduction (one page) should include the following points:

• An overview of the research paper
• The purpose or objective of the research paper

The body of the paper (four to six pages) should address each of the following topics using information learned in the course, in combination with outside references:

• In today’s healthcare scenario, are behavioral health services viewed as a profession? How? Is behavioral health service different from the rest of the healthcare industry? If yes, how? If no, why?
• Describe the main reasons why behavioral healthcare may be reimbursed differently than any other healthcare services, in general. What factors need to be addressed based on the population served? Utilize your course and text readings to support your answers.
• What are some of the challenges faced by behavioral healthcare providers who operate in a managed care environment? What are some of the areas of conflict between behavioral healthcare providers and managed care? Which amongst these conflict areas do you think is the most crucial, and requires immediate attention, and why?
• Will the managed care environment be able to support the services required to provide effective residential treatment? In your opinion, what will a residential treatment facility need to continue providing effective treatment while still being able to get reimbursed, especially through Medicaid or Medicare services? (You can use the the CMS.gov Web site to get more information on these topics.)

Your conclusion (one page) should include the following points:

• What conclusions can you draw from your research that would demonstrate the role played by managed care in the behavioral health industry?
• If you were a manager of a behavioral healthcare organization, what changes would you bring to your ways of doing business to meet the consumers’ needs while still being able to be reimbursed for the services provided to the consumer?

Analyze the product or service layout of Coca Cola and how the company does capacity planning and forecasting.

 

Search the company’s Web site and other available sources to determine the methods of forecasting, process or service design, layout planning, and capacity planning. Additionally, if the company has outsourced its manufacturing operations, analyze the strategy that led to outsourcing.

 

Submit your analysis in a Microsoft Word document (containing no more than five pages) under the following headings:

 

• Operations
• Strategy
• Positioning

Using the APA format, cite the sources you use on a separate page.

 

This week, you revisit methods for data assessment and analysis including software and computers. These tools have enabled researchers to collect, clean, manage, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data at high speed. For example, GIS is a helpful tool for quantitative analysis in community health assessment, and NVivo has been widely used in qualitative data analysis. Yet both continue to be problematic to many practitioners. You evaluate the benefits and limitations of data analysis methods including the use of software. Finally, you evaluate some of the reasons why technology may not be a panacea to all the problems of manual data analysis but, rather, a source of new challenges.

For this Discussion, consider this week’s Resources. Think about your personal experiences with data collection software, even if it was not related to community health assessment, and think about some of the challenges it posed.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post 4 pages of your answer to one of the following:

• Explain one benefit and one limitation for using software-assisted quantitative data analysis in the preparation of a community health assessment report and justify your response, or
• Explain one benefit and one limitation for using software-assisted qualitative data analysis in the preparation of a community health assessment report and justify your response.
• Finally, describe one method for data analysis for which you would not use software and explain why.

A community health assessment is incomplete without a final report, but even a final report may be read by very few people. Most people do not have the time to read a lengthy report. Your findings and recommendations will find a wider audience if you can present them in a concise summary covering key points. Knowing how to extract and present the most important elements of each section of an assessment report is a critical skill so that the findings may be disseminated to the widest possible audience.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post a PowerPoint summary of your Scholar-Practitioner Project. Then, explain the insights you gained or conclusions you drew from having completed your community health assessment.

Use the Resources and current literature to support your response.

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is in place to ensure the safety and confidentiality of information for those individuals who participate in research studies. For most research in the field of health care, you are required to have your research preapproved by at least two organizations—Walden University and the health facility with which you will be working.

Understanding the level of review required for your research and why it is vital to be approved prior to beginning your dissertation research will protect you, the University, and the individuals who participate in your research.

Review the “Institutional Review Board (IRB) Frequently Asked Questions” self-paced tutorial included in this week’s Learning Resources, as well as the materials presented at the Institutional Review Board for Ethical Standards in Research website (also included this week’s Learning Resources).

Post 3-4 pages brief description of your dissertation topic. Then, explain the types of consent and precautions you think the Institutional Review Board may require for your research study, and why. Be sure to note how your research design, methods, participants, and type of data might affect the level of institutional review required.

Write an analysis of each article or news story addressing the following:

• Describe the crime depicted in the article.
• How is criminal justice system portrayed?
• What feelings or reactions are evoked in you by the article?
• How would you explain the reported criminal behavior using at least two theories from the psychological perspectives to each article or news story?

Give a complete citation for the selected article and include a digital copy, if possible.

Write a 2–3-page log entry in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Research newspaper or magazine articles related to crime using the print or online news media.

Select two articles or news stories and apply at least two theories from the biological, psychological, and/or sociological perspectives to each article or news story.

Write an analysis of each article or news story addressing the following:

• What is the purpose of the story as you perceive it?
• How is crime or criminal justice portrayed?
• What feelings or reactions are evoked in you by the article?
• How would you explain the reported criminal behavior using the two theories you selected? Explain your choice of theory.

Give complete citation for the selected article and include a digital copy if possible.
