Over the last few weeks, we have discussed various public problems and the various government attempts to alleviate public problems.  Considering what you have learned about American Federalism, discuss why solving public problems is incredibly difficult?   Which level of government is the most appropriate to deal with public problems such as poverty, healthcare, the environment, or education?

In a three- to four-page paper (not including the title and references pages),

1. Include a revised version of your introduction, research question, background research, hypothesis, research design, and sampling plan. These revisions must be based on your instructor’s feedback if your instructor provided additional comments about these sections in Week Two.
2. Describe the possible types of secondary data used for hypothesis testing, including a discussion of whether or not one or more types of secondary data could be used to test your hypothesis and why this secondary data would or would not be useful.
3. Describe the possible measurement benchmarks and scales used for hypothesis testing, including a discussion of whether or not your survey should include measurement benchmarks and scales to test your hypothesis and why these measurement benchmarks and scales would or would not be useful.
4. Include an APA-formatted references list (on a separate references page).

Dear Cabinet Member:

Prior to the next cabinet meeting you must submit a report on your highest priority program. The purpose of this report is to inform me of your priority program for the upcoming fiscal year. Please give me details on why your highest ranking program should be included in this year’s budget proposal. In your report, include necessary documentation including any supporting graphics and testimonials that you believe necessary to make your case for support of this program.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW

Washington, D.C. is an extremely competitive, political town and you must work hard to keep your agency an important part of government. It’s the beginning of the legislative calendar and you must compete with other agencies and departments for a part of the budget and a high profile emphasis from the president.

Choose which federal executive department you would like to represent (see list below).  Identify a current or new program that you will present to the president as a priority for your department.  Write a report to the president describing the problem and the program that will alleviate the problem.  You may prepare charts, tables and graphs to explain your plans to the President.

DETAILS

1. Submit a written report addressed to the president.  A quality report will probably be between 750-1000 words.  However, the president cares more about clarity and detail than length – charts and other visual aids may be more valuable than word count.
2. You should use at least 5 quality sources to research and clarify your report.  When appropriate, the sources should be cited within the report using MLA or APA style.  A complete bibliography should be attached to the report. A bibliography includes all sources from which you gathered information.
3. The president wants to focus on your ideas, not your errors.  Be sure to check for clarity and appropriate word usage; complete sentences; correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
4. As the head of your department you should demonstrate substantial understanding about your department and your priority program.
5. In order to get a favorable response from the president, be sure to follow all guidelines as outlined in the attached rubric.
6. In the report describe the top priority program for your department:

• How does this program fit into the official mission of your department?
• Why is your department best suited to run this program?
• Is this a new program or an existing program?
• What problem does the program solve?  How significant is the problem?  Give evidence, not anecdote.
• What is the estimated fiscal impact of the program and how does it fit into your department’s budget?
• Why should the program be important to the president?

The final six to eight page paper must demonstrate understanding of new learning in the field of project management. It is mandatory to have research from the classroom text, as well as five sources from the internet or online library to support your views. It is recommended to use examples from your professional experience where possible, or build from your learning in the discussion boards. (Suggestion: use at least one project of which you have been either a team member or a project manager as an example to describe the topics below):

The following topics must be reviewed in order for the paper to be complete:

• Define project management and explain its importance to the business world.
• Explain project life-cycle management and the benefits of project management to an organization.
• Explain the concepts of planning in the project life-cycle and how research and critical thinking is mandatory in planning.
• Explain project organizations and the importance of leadership and sponsorship.
• Explain project team building, including techniques of successful team building.
• Explain how to create a work breakdown structure and how a project manager breaks down the overall project into packages.
• Explain the need for project management software in large integrated programs and the benefits to the overall project management organization.

Writing the Final Paper

The Final Paper:

• Must be six to eight double-spaced pages in length and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide.
• Must include a cover page that includes:
  • Student’s name
  • Course name and number

  • Date submitted
• Must include an introductory paragraph with a succinct thesis statement.
• Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
• Must conclude with a restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph.
• Must use APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide to document all sources.
• Must include, on the final page, a Reference Page that is completed according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide.

Assignment 1: LASA 2—Study Company Report

 

For this assignment, use the study company approved by your facilitator in Module 1 when addressing the following questions in a 10-12 page report.

 

1. Present a ratio analysis of your Study Company using data for the most recent year and the previous year. Show formulas and steps to generate each ratio.  Include in your analysis, ratios that measure liquidity, profitability, and asset management.  Write an analysis of the ratios and the conclusions that can be drawn by comparing the metrics of the company for the two years.
2. Develop the forecasted (pro forma) income statement. Use a historical average of past sales growth for the sales growth rate assumption.  Explain how you formed the forecasted income statement. Define all assumptions you used in forming your forecasted statement.
3. Explain why the bottom-line earnings (net income) metric receives so much attention. Explain the multiple drivers of the bottom-line earnings in the forecasted income statement.
4. Identify at least three stakeholder groups for your company that could be impacted by company efforts to increase this bottom-line number. Explain in what way they would be impacted.
5. Determine if your study company follows the for-profit only model, or, the alternative business model aligned with the needs of people and planet.  Justify your response.

 

Sentencing

 

In this assignment, you will consider two hypothetical criminal cases for sentencing. Then, you will write a paper explaining the sentences you would give and your reasons for doing so. You will also consider the value of the alternative sentencing practices. Please consider both of the following scenarios as you complete this assignment.

 

• • Scenario A: Defendant A has been caught dealing marijuana out of her home. It is her second offense; she has already served time. She is the single parent of two small children and has a history of spousal abuse.
  • Scenario B: Defendant B was driving drunk and caused a car crash. The two victims in the other car were significantly injured but survived. Defendant B has expressed remorse. This is his first offense, and his blood alcohol was close to the legal limit.

 

Write a paper in which you address the following components:

 

• • Describe the possible traditional and alternative sentences you could give in each case.
  • Select the sentence you would assign to each criminal.
  • Explain why you would give the selected sentences. Discuss the value of the sentence.
