B romance, how far is “bro”
In East Asia, the media contents becoming a bigger and bigger business. Therefore, many television shows or dramas now deal with many different type of theme. The one theme I want to do research on is b romance. The b romance is the term that is of bond between two or more men.
I found some of the examples of b romance in between the boundaries of homo and heterosexuality. In East Asia, the culture itself is different for example seeing naked same sexuality is not that abnormal in public spa, like the ones from Roman Empire. Also, the concept of LGBT in East Asia countries are comparatively new, so many people did not develop any corresponding reactions to it. Therefore, seeing another men naked or doing things that could be seen as gay or lesbian in western culture was normal.
However, in the 21st century, where we develop sense of different sexuality besides male and female, first in most East Asian culture, they denied, and prohibited any of these action or ideas of anything but “straights.” Then in nowadays, people understanding more and more of different sexuality, some have fantasies of it, and some broadcasting services creates shows that shows extreme “b romance” to satisfy these fantasies.
This is Queer-Chinese culture class, so I need to have some sources of Chinese articles or literature to support the idea. You can change the title or any other things. The above paragraphs are what I came up with after thinking about the what subject I should choose, and the below is the actual paper instruction given by professor.
Thank you so much.
Your paper should be original research. You can compare and contrast two films, discuss or critique a few scholarly articles, investigate a topic of interest to you, or develop your answers to some of the reading questions from journal homework, or from your group presentation-work (described in #4 below), into an essay-length discussion. You can also compare Queer Chinese Cultures with other queer cultures (for example, you can talk about stereotypes of gay Asian men; compare “tomboy” culture in Korean youth fashion with Taiwanese queer “T” cultures, or look at notions of masculinity in gay subcultures in Malaysia, India, the U.S..; you can also write about issues of concern to Asian American identity and sexuality; or you could compare and contrast Last Words from Montmartre with another experimental lesbian novel, like Springer’s The Vicious Red Relic, Love…you get the idea).
