Research Project Overview
The Research Project provides students an opportunity to apply what they have learned about crime and criminology during the length of the course. The overall goal of the Research Project is for students to choose a topic from the course text that interests and challenges them, analyze the topic by reviewing credible and evidence-based scholarly resources relative to the problems and challenges that exist, and apply the theories, concepts, and principles covered in the course. It is recommended that students review all of the assignments, requirements, and grading rubrics so that they know exactly what is expected of them throughout the course and for the final Research Project.
In order to successfully complete the Research Project, three formative assignments and a draft will be completed as deliverables throughout the length of the course:
- Assignment 1: Topic Selection and Proposal due Week 2
- Assignment 2: Formal Outline due Week 4
- Assignment 3: Annotated Bibliography due Week 6
- Assignment 4, Part 1: Research Project Draft Submission due Week 8
- Assignment 4, Part 2 (optional): Research Project Re-Submission due Week 10
All written assignments must follow these formatting requirements:
- Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must conform to the APA formatting requirements. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
- Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
- Utilize credible and evidence-based sources such as journal and peer-reviewed articles.
- Display accurate spelling, punctuation, and grammar and write in a clear and organized manner.
